Thanks for the mention on the podcast guys, it was a nice surprise! I’m going to have to ask my boss exactly how old that app is now but I’m pretty sure it has to be around 15 years old. It’s written in Oracle Forms and if you’ve ever done any forms work then you’ll know it’s just horrible. I call forms “shotgun logic” – there’s little bits of business logic all over the place in triggers and all sorts like someone loaded it all up in Elmer Fudd’s blunderbuss and fired it out!
Hopefully I’ll eventually get the green light to rewrite the entire thing in rails as well as redesign that awful database.
Sounds good Anton, it’s great to see articles and solutions for when people do have to deal with Legacy dbs. I’m sure it happens more then we’d like to admit.
What’s weird/funny is that I’ve been listening to you guys so long that when I was reading your comment Gregg, I could actually hear how you would say it vocally.
Hi Jason & Gregg
I’m a big fan of your podcast, I’m listening to you every week.
It may be GREAT to have a concatenation of all the show notes, to be able to search. For the moment it’s quite hard to find something I remember having heard about in your podcast a few weeks ago.
That’s just an idea.
Thanks for all your good work with the podcast and everything else. You guys rock !
